12" x 12" x 2.5"
I have appreciated, studied, and supported artists, and have made art throughout my life. In the past, I had the pleasure of owning a consignment store for many years that featured local Artists and Makers. During that time, the visual merchandising of eclectic and quickly changing merchandise brought me lots of joy and a way to communicate with my customers. It served as a living art project and a way to give Artists and Makers a venue to show their work.
In 2019, I decided to actively start creating art pieces again. My New Year’s resolution was to challenge myself to get back into my studio at least 10 minutes a day, and it all started growing from there. By April of that year, I was entering my first show, thanks to InterUrban Art House and their 12”x12” Show. During this time, I have been focusing on Fiber Art, which has always been a passion. The textures, colors, and sculpting are exciting to me. I do mix custom paint colors for the canvases I mount the pieces on, so I get to keep my brushes in the paints too.
2019-2020 has been an adventure. I have been fortunate to have had pieces shown in: 12x12, Bits and Pieces, Member Art, and Who Does She Think She Is shows at InterUrban Art House (Overland Park, KS), The Strawberry Swing at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City, MO), 2010 Gallery (Prairie Village, KS), Grover Executive Building (Overland Park, KS), Seeing Red show at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod (South Yarmouth, MA), Mixed Media show at Core New Art Space (Lakewood, CO), February Group and June Group shows at the Jones Gallery (Kansas City, MO), small works-BIG TALENT show at Las Laguna Gallery (Laguna, CA), and Living In Color-Functional and Decorative Art For the Home show at Fine Line Creative Arts Center (St. Charles, IL), Alpha Mortgage (Overland Park, KS), Art League of Hilton Head (Hilton Head Island, SC), 7th National Juried Fine Art and Craft Exhibition Old Town Arts and Craft Guild 2020 Show (Chutchogue, NY), and Core New Art Space (Lakewood, CO)-Small Works Show 2020.
My goal when creating and naming pieces is to bring positive thoughts and memories to mind in shared feelings, common events, or subjects in life that make people instantly feel happier, included, loved, balanced, and/or peaceful. We are all connected. We can instantly be brought together by experiencing the same piece of art. It is an amazing concept.
*Fun fact: The yarn that I use has been collected by me over 30+ years (hoping to make time to do art sometime in the future, and here I am using it), some currently hand selected and purchased as needed to compliment pieces I am working on, but many of the yarns have been gathered for me by friends, family, and strangers. So, my collection is always changing and helps inspire the pieces I make. I love having this support and these contributions to my creations, it makes them more colorful and more interesting than I could realize on my own.
