Public Art & Culture Plan

Prairie Village Arts Council’s First Ever Public Art & Culture Plan Kicks Off

The month of April 2026 marked the beginning of a nine-month community process to develop the City of Prairie Village’s first-ever Public Art & Culture Plan.

Fulfilling a years-long goal of the Prairie Village Arts Council, this process will engage community residents, workers, and visitors in a variety of ways to find out:

What do we want to see in Prairie Village?

The Arts Council (PVAC) and PV Deputy City Administrator, Nickie Lee, have brought together a steering committee comprised of Arts Council members, City Council members, PV Diversity Committee and Parks & Rec Committee representatives, business stakeholders, local arts educators, PV residents, and local arts industry leaders.

Earlier this year, PVAC selected, and the city council approved, Group Creatives as our guide for this work. Led by founder and director, Teva Dawson, our team is comprised of: poet, editor, and previous Kansas Poet Laureate, Huascar Medina; Landscape Architect, Matt Evett; AICP Certified Planner, Loren Ditzler; Research Design Advisor, Ryan Hanser; and Creative Strategist and Graphic Designer, Alex Braidwood.

Benefits of a Public Art & Culture Plan to Prairie Village:

  • Use arts to advance civic initiatives

  • Create distinction and identity through art and culture

  • Root the arts in Prairie Village

  • Discover sustained local financial support and systems

  • Identify existing opportunities for impact and savings

  • Demonstrate possibilities

  • Express community authentically

  • Advance a welcoming, beautiful community

  • 3-5 year road map of actionable recommendations

  • Establish shared cultural language with leadership

  • Arts as an additional community development tool

"With the creation a few years ago of a Public Arts Fund and ongoing discussions around developing a sponsorship program, the arts council is perfectly poised to create a Public Art & Culture Plan and activate a site-specific concept to show Prairie Village what the future holds and what they can be part of the investment in.”
Bonnie Limbird
PVAC Member
former arts council chair
former city council Ward 3 representative

The PVAC couldn’t be more excited to bring this idea to fruition finally, and we can’t wait for you to join us on the journey!

Watch for more information on upcoming community engagement via online survey, online idea board, and in person at the Prairie Village Arts Show in late May, featuring poetry on demand by Huascar Medina!
