Meet our Juror, Aaron Smith:
Photography is an island in a sea of art processes. It stands alone in its form and methods of expression. Although photography also has pragmatic purposes for documenting scientific discoveries, historical moments and often is tied to ideas of nostalgia, the processes of photography are equally, if not more adept at creating evocative fine art. Somewhere in the intersection of realism and abstraction is where I find the greatest works. |
Aaron Smith is an accomplished contemporary artist and returning Kansas City native. His kinetic photographs (classified as 'light art') and still photographs have been exhibited in museums and select exhibition spaces throughout the United States, and have been featured in multiple publications. Aaron earned his MFA from Maine College of Art and is currently a professor of visual art and photography at Johnson County Community College and a Board Member at The Arts Asylum.
