Art of Photography 2022

The Prairie Village Arts Council is proud to exhibit the 2022 Art of Photography Show IN-PERSON in the R.G. Endres Gallery at Prairie Village City Hall.

This year's show is juried by local photographer, Angie Jennings. ANGIE JENNINGS has been a photographer for over 30 years and currently, along with doing her own work, she is President of the Kansas City Society of Contemporary Photography where she and her board members help local and regional photographers promote and exhibit their work. She received a 2-year degree in still photography from Metropolitan Community College in 1987 and a Bachelor's of Art in Mandarin Chinese in 2003. She spent 6 months in China honing her language skills as well as creating a body of work that resulted in her series Modern Streets of an Ancient Empire which was exhibited in 5 galleries in Missouri. Her specialty is traditional and digital black and white street photography, in which she searches out and captures serendipitous humorous moments.

She has worked in different photographic mediums, such as: Film, photogravure, digital, VanDyke, and cyanotype. She has exhibited extensively in the Kansas City region, Nebraska, Oregon, Oklahoma, Vermont, Colorado, and Beijing, China. She was awarded two Artist Inc. fellowships, a Charlotte Street Start Up Residency, 2022 Charlotte Street ArtBoards, April-June, honorable mention in 13th Annual Pollux Award and 16th annual Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers, as well as 2 public art grants through Kansas City Art in the Loop to display images on Streetcar Shelters. She has received Best in Show in Sage Community Arts, 7th Annual Juried Photography show: New Photographs of Animals. She has been published in various magazines and photo annuals. Most recently she was one of 42 artists selected out of over 1800 to be published in Manifest Gallery's eighth International Photography Annual. She has a self published Beauty of Survival: Krista’s fight against breast cancer-2013 which was a 2 year project documenting her friend through her fight. She was included in Jeffrey Aldrich's book One Life 2011. Included in Sandra Chen Weinstein, Juror, On the Road: Travel Photography, 2012 catalog. Single Image Contest Winner in Color Magazine Special Issue #13 May, 2011 and in Ye Youxin's, Through Leica Lenses, Leica Insight Catalogue of Photographic Exhibit, Beijing China Press.

Juror's Statement

I was honored to have been invited to be the 2022 Art of Photography’s juror. I know, from working with jurors and the amount of entries they had to determine which images would make the cut, that my job would not be easy. I do not make my choices lightly, as there were so many excellent works entered. The major difficulty was having to choose only one from a series that worked so well together. Out of 452 I was asked to select 70. A difficult task indeed.

I had started with impact. Which images kept creeping into my psyche and held my attention? Then the category. Did the images, in my opinion, represent the category under which they were entered? Then the technical. I chose technical as my last because I know images that have impact can override technically strong in my book.

The culmination of these images will take the viewer to many different places, moods and affect each person differently. I have found many to be fantastical constructs that create contemplative imagery and convey mystery, fun, sentimental nostalgia, and tension. The use of different materials or tools helped the artist create an ethereal wisp of a dream.

I wish I could have selected more, but under the exhibition constraints I had to reign in my selections and weed them down to this very wonderful extraordinary show. All of the artists selected should be incredibly proud and I hope encouraged to continue their work.
